Ok, so while we were still in the hospital, they had a nice little fleece swaddle and they showed us how to wrap Mads up tightly to make her feel secure. We usually left her little arms out because she liked to have them above her head while she slept. After we came home from the hospital, we seldom used the swaddle. She slept on her own between every-three-hours feedings and all was well.
She has always been a very good, content baby and rarely cries unless she is EXTREMELY PO'D. So at about 1 month, when she started screaming and it lasted a good hour, I was of course on the phone with the nurse's line asking WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY BABY! No fever or anything, so they told me to try swaddling her. *Ding goes the lightbulb* She stopped crying and promptly fell asleep.
That is when I began what has been the best/worst idea ever of swaddling her every night. She has been sleeping thriugh the night, about 8pm to 7am since 1 month. ONE MONTH PEOPLE!! Any mom knows how utterly fabulous this is.
But here is my question. How do you break the swaddle habit? She is getting too big for her swaddle. She is learning how to roll over while de-swaddled and I don't want her to roll over while swaddled for obvious reasons. But when I put her to be sans swaddle, she wakes up every half hour until I swaddle her again. GAH!! Her arms are contantly moving which equals nuk being thrown from mouth which equals "Hey guys? A little help here? I can hold the nuk, but I can't quite stick it back in yet? WWWAAAAHHHH!!!!".
Yes, I toyed with the idea of making bigger and bigger swaddles until she was, oh, ten years old maybe. But my mom said that was "mean". Pfft.
I know the answer is that I just need to keep trying to get her to sleep longer and longer without the swads. I know this. But I keep putting it off. Because it is just SO NICE to tuck her in and know she will sleep peacefully for the next 11 hours or so.
Oh and there is always the cuteness factor:
Too cute right? And one night me and Jason decided she bore a striking resemblance to a well loved children's toy. So we decided to check it out:
"Really? Really you guys? Do you have nothing better to do?"

Around 3 months or so, J started wanting his hands and legs free while sleeping, so we put him long-sleeved pjs with the feet on them, and he slept great!
